Should the government provide health care?- @http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Debate:Should_a_just_government_provide_healthcare_to_its_citizens%3F

The Hunger Games is a 2008 young adult novel by American writer Suzanne Collins. It is written in the voice of Katniss Everdeen, who lives in the post-apocalyptic nation of Panem, where the countries of North America once lived. The Capitol, a highly advanced metropolis, exercises political control over the rest of the nation. The Hunger Games are an annual event in which one boy and one girl aged 12–18 from each of the twelve districts surrounding the Capitol are selected by lottery to compete in a televised battle to the death, intill only a victor is left.

Generally they should not provide healthcare. There needs to be a mechanism to support the poor and provide basic medical needs, but the government does not have responsibility to provide health care. The government is also notoriously inefficient in many things. Besides, our entire system would then be susceptible to political influence in a way we've never seen before, not to mention the corruption that exists in government more than the private sector.

What government should do is provide for a stable society that supports free market principles so that citizens can operate their own health care insurance companies and health care providers and compete with one another. This would mean the government needs to address the regulations is places on the current system.

first of all, isn't every doctor obliged to give care to people in immediate need of help? I thought it was in their oath. Second, I have read at least a couple of times, in the Mediterranean country where I am now living, of people who collapsed and died in front of a hospital. In this country, doctors/nurses are required to stay in the hospital, they can't go out - even if just 5 meters/yards! The correct procedure is to call an ambulance, which will come from who knows where and take you to the hospital when it's too late

How it works

This is how the lottery works, all purchase prices of cards/tickets is colectted, then only a portion of it is given back to the players as prizes, generally since they are run by the government, and the governments use the profits for funding of government programs, they set the amoutn of money they return as prizes VERY LOW making it the worst bet you can make. The retun percentage on lotteries is usually around only 50%

Since generally only the desperate and foolish play the lottery It effectively taxes the poor, and uneducated to keep societies inner working flowing smoothly.

On the plus side, a few lucky people will be come millionairs, its probibly not a good thing since being foolish people that they are, they will put the millions of dollars toward sportscars and things that really dont BETTER the world aroudn them.
